7 Wonder secures debut BBC2 order

Don’t Buy That, Buy This? (working title) is a 6 x 30-minute multi-strand series which aims to help viewers become more savvy shoppers.

Each week Healey will present the show from a different location, ranging from stately homes to opera houses and film studios. These will provide the backdrop for a series of product test challenges conducted by expert craftsmen, engineers and designers.

Away from the main location, a series of reporter-led strands will offer consumer advice and reveal the psychological tricks companies use to persuade shoppers to spend.

Don’t Buy That, Buy This? was ordered by BBC head of commissioning for natural history and specialist factual formats Tom McDonald and commissioning editor Craig Hunter. It will be series edited by Alan Holland, the former showrunner of Stargazing Live and Watchdog.

Holland said he expected the show to be “hugely credible, intelligent and journalistic whilst also being full of mischief and fun”.

It follows previous commissions from ITV, Channel 4 and Sky from the 7 Network Australia-backed indie, which was established by Alex Fraser and Liza Abbott in March 2014.
